Comprehensive Psychological Assessments

Comprehensive Psychological Assessments involve addressing complex, open-ended, or holistic questions about what is happening for an individual. Each comprehensive psychological assessment is individualized for the client’s circumstances and can encompass measures of cognitive, academic, personality, and/or emotional functioning. The end result is a better and more thorough understanding of an individual’s functioning, which may or may not include a diagnosis.
Timeline: Due to the intensive nature of comprehensive psychological assessments, they can take anywhere from one month to a few months to complete. Following the initial clinical interview, a treatment plan that includes the dates of the testing sessions will be created to determine an estimate of the timeline of completion of the testing, feedback session (approximately two-to-four weeks following the completion of testing) and delivery of the final report (approximately two-to-four weeks following the feedback session).
Comprehensive Psychological Assessments involve:
1. Clinical Interview(s) (Virtual, 90 minutes; will potential supplemental sessions of varying length).
- Gathering information from the client (or parents) about history of concerns, general life history, interpersonal relationships, school/work life, psychiatric history, presentation, symptoms, behaviors, strengths, and areas of impairment.
2. Psychological Testing Session(s) (Virtual and/or In-Person, 120 minutes each). May involve 1-3 sessions.
- I will facilitate psychological testing through the use of empirically validated psychometric testing that can include cognitive, academic, neuropsychological, and performance-based or projective tests. Depending on the question(s) being answered and the clinically indicated need, this may require multiple sessions.
3. Self/Other Report Questionnaires/Screeners
- Self-report questionnaires and screeners will be sent for the client to complete at home. Additionally, questionnaires and screeners for other relevant reporters (parents, other family members, teachers, relationship partners) may be sent to be completed.
4. Collateral Contacts
- Phone/Video interviews may be completed with other relevant people who can speak to aspects of the client’s life, such as teachers, therapists, school psychologists, or relationship partners.
5. Record Review
- I may request copies of documentation, such as school report cards, school testing, any previous psychological/neuropsychological testing, individualized education plan (IEP) reports, psychotherapy notes, or other relevant documents.
6. Feedback Session (Virtual, 60 minutes)
- Once the assessment is completed, I will schedule a feedback session to go over a summary relevant findings and answer questions that may arise.
7. Completed Psychological Assessment Report of 10-30 pages.
- At the conclusion of the assessment a comprehensive assessment report (of approximately 10-30 pages) will be delivered for the client’s records and for use with schools, work, or other circumstances where it would be beneficial.
